Open Spaces Manager
Parks & Arena Division
Community Development, Parks & Recreation Department
The City of Yorkton is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Open Spaces Manager within the Parks & Arena division. Reporting directly to the Parks and Arena Manager, this Out of Scope position will be responsible for the orientation and training of all staff, ongoing development and implementation of the City of Yorkton safety program and the supervision and direction of the grass maintenance program within the Parks & Arena division. This position will direct and supervise 10 to 15 unionized staff within the grass crew, co-ordinate the fleet maintenance/operation program and ensure the commitment to a safe workplace. The ideal candidate will have some supervisory experience, have a keen knowledge of maintenance and equipment operation and be willing to train, coach and mentor workers of all skill sets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage Open Spaces within the Parks & Arena division
- Oversee orientation and training for new employees and implementation of new programs to all employees
- Assist with various administration and documentation programs and duties within the department
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety legislation and assist in the implementation of the COR safety program initiative
- Ensure that all policies and agreements are adhered to and applied consistently
- Employ a fleet maintenance program to ensure all equipment is properly maintained in accordance with Policy
- May be required to work evenings and weekends
- Assist in other aspects of the Parks & Arena division as it relates to forestry operation, cemetery operations, and kinsmen arena operations
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of maintenance and operation of equipment
- Diploma or Certificate from a recognized Parks and Recreation or related program will be considered an asset
- Approximately 2 years of technical experience in parks operations, equipment maintenance or experience with a leadership role in safety
- Approximately 2 years experience in a supervisory role
- Must possess and maintain R.C.M.P. security clearance and a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s license
Compensation:
- Salary is currently under review
Employment:
- This is a full time, nine (9) month seasonal position that is anticipated to run from early March until the end of November annually.
