Permanent Full Time
Instructor/Lifeguard I/II Position
Gallagher Centre Water Park

Competition Number: 2014-33

The Gallagher Centre Water Park is looking for a Full Time Instructor/Lifeguard.  Reporting directly to the Aquatic Coordinator, the major duties and responsibilities of the full time position include:

  • Perform lifeguard duties according to the National Lifesaving (NL) standards.
  • Instruct lifesaving water safety lessons and courses, as well as fitness programs.
  • Ensure lesson plans are completed, results recorded, and submitted.
  • Complete all basic janitorial daily tasks and report any deficiencies.
  • Complete incident/accident reports for submission.
  • Complete participant report cards.
  • Ability to work shift work and weekends as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of grade 12 education or equivalency, and one full year of aquatic experience
  • Bronze Cross
  • Standard First Aid/CPR-C or Aquatic Emergency Care
  • National Lifeguard Award
  • Lifesaving Instructor
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Physical fitness needs to be maintained
  • Basic understanding of pool operation
  • Possess and maintain RCMP security clearance

The ideal candidate will also have a minimum of one of the following Advanced Awards:

  • NL Instructor
  • AEC Instructor
  • BOAT Instructor
  • LSI Trainer
  • Standard First Aid/CPR-C Instructor (Lifesaving Society)

Salary:

$19.48 - $23.27 per hour

Hours of Work:

Shift work, evening and weekend work may be required (40 hours per week)

Recreation Attendant
Gloria Hayden Community Centre
Community Development, Parks & Recreation Department

Competition Number: 2014-44

The Gloria Hayden Community Centre is a leisure facility featuring a 140m walking/jogging track, two regulation indoor courts capable of supporting racquetball, squash, and wallyball, and a gymnasium with a basketball court, a volleyball court and 3 badminton courts. We are seeking an energetic individual with good public relations skills to work at this diverse recreation facility.

Reports to the Recreation Services Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Supervision of the facility
  • Scheduling of rentals
  • Evaluations
  • Cash reporting
  • Equipment set up and take down
  • General maintenance & janitorial duties
  • Support services to community groups and organizations offering programs at the centre

Qualifications:

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Possession of or ability to attain a valid recognized First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Possess and maintain an RCMP security & vulnerable sector clearance

Hours of Work:

15-20 hours per week of casual/part time shifts, including days, evenings and weekends

Economic Development Officer
Planning & Engineering Department

Competition Number: 2014-45

The City of Yorkton has a Full Time Economic Development Officer position available for a dynamic, highly motivated individual. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the co-ordination of departmental objectives and operations with the Director of Planning & Engineering.
  • Plan, direct, co-ordinate and review the Economic Development Division’s work plan for assigned staff; assigns work activities, projects, and programs to carry out City Council and Economic Development Committee priorities; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Develop and administer the Economic Development Division’s operating and special program budgets; participates in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; implements adjustments.
  • Attend Economic Development Committee, Council and other meetings as necessary.
  • Establish and implement strategic direction for the Division and direct and manage annual work plans and budget pursuant to the city’s adopted business plan.
  • Prepare and implement marketing and advertising campaigns promoting the community and region by assembling and analyzing community needs and forecasts.
  • Establish long-lasting relationships with existing and potential businesses to market and promote Yorkton as a regional service hub within east-central Saskatchewan.
  • Support senior staff by providing property sales data, market trends, forecasts, analysis, relaying customer services requests.
  • Research, identify and evaluate gaps in the retail, wholesale or industrial sectors while maintaining research databases.
  • Coordinate and facilitate marketing initiatives to promote Yorkton and the east-central region.
  • Maintain inventory of pertinent information and statistics on all aspects of Yorkton.
  • Perform a full range of marketing and public relations activities; research of economic information and provide market data; develop an annual marketing and promotions plan, create and distribute marketing and collateral materials; coordinate City-wide branding/marketing efforts; prepare and present information and direction regarding the Division’s web page and provides articles for other organizations and/or web-based promotions.
  • Provide a full range of realty services related to the sale of municipal residential lands by preparing and receiving sales agreements from purchasers and ensuring they are completed in an orderly manner in conjunction with the City Clerk’s office.

Qualifications:

  • A Certificate in Economic Development from the Economic Development Association of Canada/University of Waterloo or a Certified Economic Developer Professional Accreditation (Ec.D.) or equivalent is desired.
  • Three to five years of experience
  • Knowledge of local, provincial and national business, industry, marketing and economic issues.
  • Knowledge of research techniques, public relations, manufacturing processes, methods and sources of financial and management techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic requirements, principles and techniques of business development.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong motivational, marketing, knowledge-sharing, team, self-management and computer skills.
  • Creative and forward-thinking ability.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and marketing skills.
  • Working knowledge of real estate and legal processes related to municipal land transactions.
  • Experience with land development or urban planning.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License.
  • Must possess and maintain RCMP security clearance.
